The human body is bipedal which means that it is specifically designed to move far distances. When we stop moving for a long period of time, our body starts to lose the ability to use its muscles and joints. This is that tight muscle or stiffness feeling after sitting down for a while. Studies show that people heal much faster when they are moving. This is why doctors tell their patients to walk around after having surgery. Another terrible thing that happens when the body stays idle for too long is that it starts to lose coordination and spatial awareness. The heart is not beating fast enough and cannot pump enough blood around the brain to keep it at maximum alertness. This means that the body will become clumsy and won’t be able to react fast enough to potential dangers.
