In order to create my entire portfolio, I used Microsoft Word, Weebly, a cell phone, the internet, and my writer’s notebook. I wrote all of my information on Microsoft word in order to copy and paste the information to the Weebly page. I found that it was much more efficient to type the information on a Word document rather than on the Weebly page. As I was creating the Weebly page, I found out that it would not save the information I pasted onto it. I solved this problem by creating word documents that I knew would save the information I wrote. Weebly was the easiest option in order to create my portfolio because it has a simple and very user friendly format. In the future, I might create a portfolio using a different website. Weebly was very easy to use, but it froze numerous times and forced me to re-paste my information.
I decided to combine all the parts of the portfolio into one Weebly to make things easier to find. An orange tree and sky scene was chosen as the background to the portfolio because I visited San Marino last summer and the scene reminds me of the trip. I tried to use the simplest layout possible to make navigation easier. I don’t want the viewers to get frustrated because they cannot find simple information. The font was increased and darkened to allow the reader to see the information more clearly. I tried to add at least one picture to every page in order to provide a visual understanding of the information.
Before the start of my freshman year, I thought that this class was going to be really hard. In high school, I was used to reading poems and short stories out of a textbook with review questions that only had one correct answer. I learned that this was not the case in college. I got to read pretty interesting excerpts in this class and completed activities that gave me a better understanding of what writing was all about. I was allowed to write down my opinion on certain topics which made me want to learn more about them. I believe that this system of learning is helping me to better comprehend difficult pieces of writing and is helping me write papers with a collegiate level of grammar. Because of this, I will definitely use what I learned in this class to help me succeed in future classes.
I enjoyed working on my inquiry topic with my team members. Everyone in my group worked as hard as they could to complete their inquiry topics on time and receive the best possible grade. There were a couple of days where one or two group members were absent from class, so it made it harder to complete group reflections. I’m just glad that this didn’t have too often because my inquiry topic needed a lot of input from my group members.
I think that the inquiry project was very fun and somewhat interesting. I was given the option to write an opt-ed piece which gave my opinion on my topic instead of only writing about the facts. This made it way easier to come up with ideas. I hope that I will be able to work on a similar assignment in future classes.
